"Return to the Water" is about the moments in life when we start to lose ourselves and sink into depression, lose hope, or get distracted from the things that bring us joy and purpose. For me ‘returning to the water’ is a metaphor for returning to a place of reflection and deeper connection to ourselves; the reflection in water being like a mirror to the soul - so that we can come back to who we are and who we’re meant to be. - Emily Rath
lyrics
It’s summertime now and your heart’s dried out like the riverbed
Something don’t feel right knowing you ain’t alive, but you ain’t dead yet
Yeah you’re lost in your life, making friends with the night, knowing you’ve been better
But just like the river water moving, there ain’t nothing that lasts forever
You gotta go back
you gotta go back
see yourself in the river and you’ll know
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
It’s freer there when you return to the water
You gotta go back, you gotta go back,
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
No you don’t like the things you’ve been feeling when you look at yourself in the mirror
All the things that you’ve done that you wish you didn’t do, well they all seem clearer
And reflections don’t lie, don’t let you get by and escape yourself
So don’t be afraid, don’t, don’t be afraid to get back to the water
You gotta go back
you gotta go back
see yourself in the river and you’ll know
You gotta go back
you gotta go back
see yourself in the river and you’ll know
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
It’s freer there when you return to the water
You gotta go back, you gotta go back,
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
I know it’s not so easy
To look at yourself and see
All the mistakes and lessons
And all of the in between
Cuz there is something greater underneath
You can be assured that you are everything you need
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
It’s freer there when you return to the water
You gotta go back, you gotta go back,
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
I’ll see you there when you return to the water
